5.0 out of 5 stars Oreck AirInstinct vs. Rabbit Air BioGS, June 10, 2012

I've owned a Rabbit Air BioGS for almost ten years now, so I have a lot of confidence and experience in my belief that Oreck AirInstinct completely blows Rabbit Air away. Here's why:

Bulk vs. Sleek Chic

Rabbit Air, quite frankly, just looks antiquated, bulky and uninspired. By comparison, AirInstinct is sleek, modern and is significantly less bulky. The Rabbit air is enormous by comparison. It's kind of like jalopy vs. elegance.

Lighted Display vs. Cool Mood Light

From day one, I always disliked the Rabbit Air's control panel and display; the glowing lights and visual cues are ridiculously bright for a product that's intended to be used in a bedroom. And there's just FAR too many things to look at, and most of it is redundant. To this day, I have to grab the user manual to decipher what half of it means; it's overdone and should be streamlined. Worse still, there's simply no way to turn off all those bright glowing lights come... Read more

I bought this product because of the problem of cigarette smoke coming into my apartment. I use it in my bedroom with the door closed. It works well but it does not remove the cigarette smoke.

I live with a 20 month old, 2 cats, and in the allergy capital of the U.S. And I do suffer from allergies. So we have had many air purifiers over the years. This is one of my favorites. One thing people do not think of is overall cost of ownership for an air purifier. Many lower cost ones are not energy star. This one is. We use ours 24/7 so an energy star rating is a must. Also is how often you need to replace filters. This is a new model so I can't say for certain, but it is rates as 3 years for the HEPA and 3 years for the odor filter. The pre-filter is washable. Not only is that the most impressive I have ever seen in an air purifier but it also means less maintenance on removing the HEPA and odor filter.

Speaking of maintenance, it is recommended to clean the pre-filter once every 2 to 4 weeks and a couple of sensors every 2 months. Not bad at all for a good air purifier. As for how it has operated. My wife has the more sensitive nose. She reports definitely better... Read more

Deals For Surround Air XJ-3000 Spare Filter

Surround Air XJ-3000 Spare Filter

Surround Air XJ-3000 Spare Filter

Product Description

HEPA air filters are made from very tiny glass fibers that are made into a tightly woven paper. This creates a filter consisting of a multitude of very small sieves that can capture extremely small particles, including some biological agents. Once trapped, contaminates and particles are not able to flow back into circulation, due to the highly absorbent pores of the HEPA air filter. HEPA air filters are largely considered the most effective type of air filter for solid particles, such as dust and other allergens. HEPA air filters remove 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns in size, almost 300 times smaller than the width of a human hair. The Atomic Energy Commission developed HEPA air filters during the Second World War. They were originally designed to remove radioactive dust from their plants. The U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security recommends HEPA air filters. HEPA air filters are effective for solid and liquid particles, but not effective for gaseous particles. The XJ-3000C HEPA & ionic air purifier incorporates other technologies that are effective against gaseous particles, such as ionization and activated carbon filtration.

  • Effective for solid and liquid particles
  • Made from very tiny glass fibers that are made into a tightly woven paper
  • Removes 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns in size, almost 300 times smaller than the width of a human hair

5.0 out of 5 stars Surround air replacement filter, September 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Surround Air XJ-3000 Spare Filter (Health and Beauty)
This is the replacement filter for the surround air. After I had spent months doing research on different air filtration systems, I did not just look at infomercials. I decided on surround air because it had 5 levels if purification and sanitizing. It was not super expensive. It had a longer warrenty than most. And a very important detail is that it was not expensive to maintain changing filters and such, it turns out to be about $2.50 a month. That seems a fair price to pay for waking with a clear nose and no headache.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome smoke eater, June 29, 2010

This review is from: Surround Air XJ-3000 Spare Filter (Health and Beauty)
Any air filtration system is only as good as the filters it uses. If your system takes these filters, you have about the best of the best for allergens, dander and smoke removal short of the condensing units used for commercial purposes. I think it might even do better than those smoke eaters in bars. The ion sanitation will really change the air in your place in less than an hour. I can't recommend this filter enough, my first one is still working perfectly 6 months later at 2 hours a day use.

Buying Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier, 17000

Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier, 17000

Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier, 17000

Product Description

True HEPA filter removes 99.97 percent of all airborne particles from the air passing through the filter such as pollen, cat dander, household dust, tobacco some & mold spores

Amazon.com Review

This portable air cleaner is recommended for filtering the air in a closed room as large as 168 square feet (12 by 14 feet). As it continuously circulates a room's air--about six times per hour--it employs two filters to remove smoke, pollen, dust, animal dander, dust mites, molds, bacteria, viruses, and odors. Especially useful for asthmatics and allergy sufferers, the cleaner contains a true HEPA filter that is at least 99.97 percent effective at trapping extremely tiny particles (as small as 0.3 microns) while a prefilter reduces odors. Honeywell's IntelliCheck system permits monitoring the filters' lives. Each filter has a button. Pressing a button activates a light, which blinks or shines steadily. One blink indicates that the filter has lots of life remaining, two blinks means less life, three blinks means even less, and a steady light indicates the filter needs changing. The HEPA filter lasts one to three years; the prefilter, three months. Filter replacement is simple, and replacement filters can be ordered separately. The air cleaner has three speeds, and all are exceptionally quiet for an air cleaner this large and powerful. It carries a five-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars Portable Air Cleaner with HEPA Filter is Whisper Soft, March 17, 2001
By
Michela (Seattle, WA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier, 17000 (Kitchen)
As someone who is highly allergic to cigarette smoke and other air pollutants and irritants, I purchased a round Honeywell HEPA air filter when it first came on the market several years ago. It still works well in the living room, but it is quite noisy even on its lowest setting.

This year I purchased another Honeywell air cleaner with a HEPA filter (Model 17400) for my bedroom because I had contacted bacterial pneumonia last year and wanted to make sure I did not get it again. Next, I purchased this Honeywell 17000 Air Cleaner (with HEPA filter) for use in a smaller bedroom which has been turned into a home office and library.

These air cleaners really work! This winter I have not had a cold or flu. Also, this Honeywell Air Cleaner with HEPA filter is whisper soft, and I have had no problems with sleeping, working, reading, watching tv, or listening to music when it is running on the low and medium settings. I leave it on all the time, and I've found that it cleans the air best... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, but rather noisy, May 18, 2005
This review is from: Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier, 17000 (Kitchen)
The Honeywell seems quite well made. The pre-filter and filter are easy to change. The carry handle on top is useful when you want to move it from room to room. The HEPA filter seems to work fine, as any other True HEPA model will, but my real concern is the noise level.

If all HEPA purifiers were like this, I would accept it, but I recently purchased the "Kenmore 295 CADR True HEPA Air Cleaner" from Sears. It is described as "America's quietest true HEPA high-efficiency air cleaner technology". The Kenmore is _quieter_ on its _highest_ setting, than the honeywell is on its _lowest_ setting, and if you put the Kenmore on its lowest setting, you can barely hear it. You'll have no problem sleeping or watching TV with it running. Note that even though the Kenmore is much quieter, it has a CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) twice that of the Honeywell, and it handles a room twice the size. I paid $199 for the Kenmore, so yes, a little more expensive than the honeywell, but... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Why do people expect silence?, December 2, 2006

This review is from: Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier, 17000 (Kitchen)
If you want a silent, useless air cleaner, go buy an overpriced oreck or sharper image unit. It will reduce things like smoke and tiny, tiny particles, but forget it getting rid of dust. I know, I had one. If you want a unit that actually "Filters" the air, buy this. Sure on Medium or High this unit will add background noise, but on low, it is hardly noticable if it's not right next to you. We noticed an immediate "crisp feel" to the air and huge reduction in dust in the air. My cough of 3 weeks is gone overnight. Coincidence.. I think not.

Don't read into the reviews that bash the noise.. Noise means it's working.
